Air-Con re-gas quantities

Putting it in Tech section hoping it will be useful as a tip if we get the correct info.
It is regas time for my QP 2004 DS. The local refiller wants to know how much is needed as there is no info out there for Maserati.
So I convince him I will get a precise figure, no problem.

However, much as I search around, look at the manual or use google fu, there is no answer. Closest I got was a figure of 570g for a 4200 aircon.

If anyone can, please enlighten me. Thank you.

Wow. That's a lot! Thanks. So that would mean with given 10-20% leakage there is capacity for about 1.5kg.

Thank you. That does seem to lock down the figure a little bit. I reckon about 1000g would do it. Voicey has just texted that from what he has it is about 600g.

It had only just been put in so there wouldn't be any leakage on the 1.25kg. Story was that air con wasn't working so had a full regas - their machine ran out of R132a after about an hour and about 1kg so after a new gas bottle and another hour 1.25kg was squeezed in there - but there was still no aircon. Closer examination showed the compressor clutch on the undertray! Took all the 1.25kg gas out again so I could fit a new compressor. Cool as you like now all back together and regassed

That's good to know. Thanks.
What model year is your QP?

Big leak in piping somewhere in Aircon setup so no refill done. Off to find a Aircon specialist for repairs. Looks like a big bill coming up.
Any one know of one around Surrey Hampshire area?

Only ever put the right amount in, bad things happen in overcharged a/c systems. The trick is not to have a leak, which is of course your issue.

With a bit of luck you will have a leaky seal or how and not a holed condenser. When you find your a/c specialist make sure they pressure test with dry nitrogen and not just hook it up to their machine and attempt to charge it.

Thanks. Zep. it's a big leak. Can hear it while the local garage guy did pressure testing.
Hopefully a specialist I have found locally will respond.

In which case I would prepare yourself for the worst. Hoses and fittings fail that badly quite rarely (unless that have chafed) so it could well me a knackered condenser. If it a hose get one made up by Pirtek rather than paying Maserati through the nose. Good luck!

Compressors and condensers are much easier to replace than most pipes. Both are available at reasonable cost if you don't mind OEM but not branded.

A local specialist has been and checked it all out. It's the compressor. He will source and replace. He assured he has dealt with a few Maserati and will do the replacement on my driveway. Excellent, I said.

Not yet. The Aircon guy will be in touch this week so I will get it.
If it helps, it's a Delphi compressor.
Do you happen to have the partnumber for me? Think my friend will be needing one soon :-(

Quick update: the air con is now sorted! I got compressor from the Delphi supplier in Hungary for all of £475 inc. vat. A local garage in Woking took it on and swapped out the old one with the new.
Including >1000 g of gas refill. Charge was £200 inc. vat.
The condition of related belt is fine so did not warrant replacing.
Hopefully summer will last a couple of weeks more do I can enjoy some silent air-conditioning just for the heck of it.
