3200 temps

Hi all, wondering what the normal running temps/behaviour are for the 3200? , mine as it is now sits around 70 when driving but within a short time of being stationary its up to just over 90 with the fan cutting in at high speed. The fans don't seem to be cooling, it just sits over 90. It's not something it's done before, usually creeps up to 90, fans cut in then back down, it just seems to be running really hot? Should say I've just replaced all the coolant hoses. Don't know if I actually have a problem (thermostat?) or it's quite normal.

90 sounds normal. I don't think the fans drop it much more than that. The normal fault is the thermostat sticking open. It will then sit at 50 to 70 when moving, and 90 when stationary.

It's hitting over 90 Allan, not by much, but that is my main worry, getting that hot to bring the fans in at full speed. It's not particularly hot weather here either

Think mine would come on at 95, and bring it down to about 90 while ticking over. Can't remember if it was on full.

That's normal Loz and nothing to worry about... If you turn the air con off say for example one fan will still be enough to cool the engine

Its only when you have the air con on both cooling fans kick in

hello loz, mine operates below the 90 have never seen temp go above the 90 even in traffic goes to the 90 but not above, last years service she was fitted with new thermostat and water pump what the operating spec is of the stat not sure dave

Other thing to check is if the fans are working on both speeds. The resistor on the fan housing can fail.

Remember though that wee gauge is probably accurate at least +/- 5% so that could see a 10% difference between two similar cars!

sounds normal to me around 90 with the fans on and it only really drops when you get on an open road and get natural cooling. Interesting the one owner who has replaced thermostat and water pump seems to have slightly lower temperatures? I wonder is this another job needing done :-(

Not familiar with Maseratis but how true it is but I read somewhere temp gauges are made to read a bit under and more stable to avoid worrying the driver, after a spirited run and a stop off for fuel in conditions like recently I should imagine the engine temp to be well over 90.
Just seen OP hasn't been getting the hot weather like most of us have but around the 90 mark reading is the norm in most cars.
What were your readings prior to your hose change? Is your coolant returning to between min and max on expansion tank when cold?

As Martyn suggested consider replacing resistor at bottom of Radiator - I suspect I had a combination of stuck thermostat but in open position (so ran cold in winter), failed resistor, leaking pipes between rad cores and small leak on turbo pipe. Once all replaced runs below 90.

Hi, thanks for the input guys, yeah coolant is fine, looks like 90 is normal, which it was till now, thing is the fans have never come on at full chat, they've always managed the temps fine before it gets that hot, so it's behaving out of character, creeps past 90 with the fans going crazy and no sign of it dropping, reactor meltdown style lol

It's pressurised so isn't going to boil until 110 or so, so I'd leave. Has the temperature sensor been changed? May just be tolerance of that. Put a temperature gun on it and see what it really is if your worried.

Update, I got round to having a look at this last night, yes it gets abnormally hot, good? news is the drivers side fan was only working intermittently, a bad connector on top of the rad being the culprit. Something else to keep an eye on for a bit.

Hopefully the fan is the reason for the temperature problem, as you say keep an eye on it.
