3200 oil,pump question

Evening people,

I have taken the plunge and have all the bits to put my car back together (starter motor, cam belt, aux belt) with the forward thought of replacing the water pump, belts pulleys and the oil pump.

I have ordered the oil control unit as I assumed it was the oil pump and it would be complete. It looks, however, that I couldn't be further from the truth. What I seem to have is just the alloy casting and the internal components are all order separately, which is quite annoying. I have searched here to see if there have been any oil pump failures, and I don't appear to be able to find anything, can anyone correct me on this?

I really want to get on and get the work done so I can prep the car for summer again but would really like to know if this is a weak point on the engine.

Many thanks,

Al

Just checked the services records, mines done 77k and still on the orignal pump. Not sure if this is good or bad though.

I don't know of the oil pump being an issue with the 3200, or any having failed.

This is the conclusion I have come to; every type of word combination into Google and I can't find one....

I'll send that part back then. Good news as I can get some shiny bits now!

The oil pumps are very well designed and don't give any trouble, just refit it with new O rings if you've already taken it apart

Still attached, not touched it luckily!

The 3200 had to be better some how, I mean other than looking the best

Mine had the oil pump replaced as part of a recall campaign.
And then endfloat destroyed the engine :)

The manual gives some quite detailed tolerances to check for the oil pump if you need a copy I can pm to you.

That was 15 years ago... now we have the tech to fix these old 3200 motor's...

Dave

Dealer wanted to make a killing so the basically replaced everything except the heads and the sump.
I'm sure a new engine would have been cheaper.
Hope the bill was covered by Maserati ...

There's quite a few 3200 engine parts that are not available from Maserati to do a proper rebuild any longer... they are 35 year old designs!

The stuff being.. Bearings(three sizes)Thrust Washers(three sizes) Piston Rings, Crank Shafts, Clutch parts... and in short supply are timing chains, oil seals, gasket sets etc.

We could get lots of this stuff remanufactured so all is not lost...but It'll cost!
