3200 GTA RCY Light

Hi Folks

I've always had the RCY light come on intermittently from time to time, it would hold 3rd gear for a bit then go away... no issue really.

However, it now comes on when the key is in the accessory position or the car is started and regardless of selected gear it says D. Whilst it drives, the displayed gear is erratic and mostly incorrect so it's not really drive-able.

Anyone experienced anything like this? My (perhaps optimistic thought) is that the wiring connector(s) to gearbox might need pulled and cleaned....

Sounds like a dirty connection somewhere, I seem to remember something about a sensor, or connector under the shift stick which can get dirty..!! If I get a minute I will see if anything is mentioned in the workshop manual..!! Somebody else may also have an answer..!!
You say it drives OK and changes gear correctly, but sometimes holds in third..??

So, finally jacked the car up and disconnected the 3 wiring connectors that run to the autobox. Thankfully it turned out to be the large circular connector - pain to get to, had to drop down the gearbox cross member but alas the connector just needed driven home, it wasn't clicked fully on.... phew!

Excellent news, relatively easy fix then and no cost apart from a few scratches..!!
