Well I am a little late to this particular party but need to do something.

I am 60years old 6’3” tall and an embarrassing 17 stone.

My initial aim is to get down to 16 stone over the next 12 weeks and I started yesterday, but I am no gym bunny and have never been a runner so just sensible diet and exercise should do it.

- 10,000 steps per day walking
- 15 min HIT on my cross trainer
- 30 mins daily “body weight” training squats etc
- max 2000 calories per day

My main meals and lunches have never been a big problem, I am blessed with a wife who does not work and likes to cook, we eat very little processed food.

But when I am away from home I am a nightmare and make some very poor choices and drink far too much, and work takes me away twice a week.

So :-
- no booze Mon - Thursday
- cut down Friday - Sunday and make better choices, so a Gin & Slim instead of a pre dinner beer (or two).
- no pastry with my morning coffee
- taking lunch from home when I can
- one cappuccino a day

Last year I lost just over a stone but have put that back on and some, this year I must do better.

Wish me luck ……
OK, so I have been at it for a few weeks and making progress.

I have lost 7 lbs and 1/2 “ off my waist so happy with that, still a long way to go though.

I am just eating less of my normal diet, but have cut right down on anything between meals and alcohol, using techniques like have a small lime and soda when I first get to the pub to quench my thirst so that my first pint lasts more than 60 seconds ! and am only visiting the pub twice a week for a set time.

I am exercising more ( mainly brisk walking) but have been out on the bike for an hour or so each weekend.

Next weekend I am away for city break so that will be a tad more challenging, will need to put in extra effort earlier in the week to try and compensate.

Onwards and upwards!

Well done Scaf
I've never been able to drink much alcohol, always get a depressing hangover even on small amounts. In my youth it worked against me with a night on the town but now I hardly drink at all kinda works in my favour. What I did enjoy was Rothmans King Size, fortunately for my finances and health that will be 20 years next March since I gave up.

That's great stuff, my friend. 6 years sober this June...and it did make a tremendous difference to my health and wallet.

Unfortunately I have struggled…..new job got all my attention and my diet has suffered
It gets me down at times as I can’t stand to look at myself

Promised I’ll kick start from yesterday and so far so good…..urges of ice cream etc I have resisted and will do a lot of walking
