My Strad had PPF from almost new (2014) and I removed it (apart from front bumper) this year. It came off relatively easily (just some sticky marks that were stubborn) but absolutely no damage to clear coat or paint even though it was there for 10 years.

I would be more worried about applying it to repainted cars, personally I wouldn’t apply it to anything other than factory paint.
