03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

Hi Tim, I think I will probably fit the parts myself. I think I'd be looking for clutch and release bearing. Not sure about flywheel yet. Maybe it's best to replace it with everything else. So far it looks like Eurospares is probably the most cost-effective for these parts and seems to be a...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

Unsurprisingly, my clutch problem has returned. I think the best thing to do now is to fit a new clutch, flywheel and release bearing. Do we have any favoured suppliers for these parts? I would like to order soon and do the work at the end of the month

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

I think I have some good news here. My fingers are crossed. I couldn't find any leaks in the system and the level didn't drop. So I decided to ask a trusted local garage to have a look. Maybe they would get to see it better on their ramp. They agreed that there was no sign of a leak and the...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

Ah yes, now I see what you're saying. Sorry, I misunderstood. I thought you were saying this could isolate whether it was release bearing or cylinder. I certainly will be starting with a bleed, but as it went from fine to not working in about a day, I think there is a weak part in the...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

I'm happy to do this first but excuse my ignorance - if successful/unsuccessful, what would it conclude?

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

I have already posted this on another forum, but wanted to post it here for insight (plus the pictures could be useful to anyone else with my problem) "Here are photos I took on Sunday when I was looking over the car. You'll see in the first one the master cylinder on the back of the pedal...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

First proper problem! Seems like a clutch problem. Hydraulic seems likely. Pedal is soft and the clutch is dragging. Can't get gears at idle and you have to rev match to change car once on the move

Boot lock disappeared into boot lid

Hi Tim, Thanks for this. It does answer my question. Just seemed a coincidence that that screw was missing and the lock was loose just beside it. When I next see the car in the light (sometime in March) I'll have to get that boot interior trim dismantled and work out what's going on. I'm just...

Boot lock disappeared into boot lid

Luckily still working perfectly! I don't want to have to rely on it, however. Thank you. It's probably worthwhile having something like this anyway Here is a picture of how it is. I notice a screw is missing from the hole on the left - it seems to me likely that this is supposed to hold the...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

I thought it was time for an update! I've been away with work and other things so I haven't done much with the car. I've been driving it a bit and getting to know it a bit. No problems so far apart from the boot lock.... That's in another thread and should be easy enough to fix. I've booked...

Boot lock disappeared into boot lid

Hi all, Still getting to know the car. Today I was thinking that since the battery is in the boot and I've been opening that using the key remotely or using the button in the glovebox, I really should have a contingency plan in case of an electrical problem. So I put the key into the lock...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

The extent of the rust decides the fate, really. Until that is known, we don't know if it's worth repairing and smartening it up, worth keeping it long term or turning it into a parts car. I am a little scared as I would like it to be a usable, scruffy car. I don't quite know yet how bad it...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

I am concerned about the rust too....I have mentioned it there but not in detail as it's the bit I won't be doing myself. I'm planning to take it to someone trusted for that. I've been underneath and I'm fairly confident the worst of it is cosmetic. We will have to see! I may take you up on...

03 Coupe GT Project - Plenty of questions incoming...

I bought this car very cheaply recently and it's very usable, but certainly not perfect. First some overview pictures: Now, I'd like to show more clearly some of the immediately obvious issues: I'm not someone who is interested in restoring a car to new condition, but I do know that rust...

A tiny part with an alternative supplier - tunnel glove box hinge

You'll find that there are loads of interior parts that come from Southco -it's a big supplier of latches, hinges etc to the industry in general. They're in cars from pretty much every western manufacturer (apart from possibly GM) and plenty of eastern ones too. Also boats So this is quite...

    New member with Coupe

Hi, Just thought I'd make an introduction. I've recently bought a 2003 Coupe GT. Cheap but scruffy. It seems well-maintained with only minor faults and I'm looking forward to using it and getting involved. I need to make a list of the jobs it needs (nothing major, I believe) and decide what I...

    Pic of the day

You jest, but I had a job at a supermarket once and we had company-supplied safety footwear that came with a little plastic tread depth checker and we were supposed to check regularly and ask for a replacement pair of shoes when the depth got to a certain point on the little checker. This may...

    Problem starting 3200

Not too crucial here, but some cars will handle it and some won't. If the car keeps trying to stop/start with the non stop/start battery, it'll kill it quickly. If it disables the stop/start function, it may well be ok. I definitely wouldn't recommend fitting a normal battery to a stop/start...

    Comfortable driver height in 3200/Coupe?

Thanks VB - I'm a fan of both the turbo rush and the NA screamer so that doesn't decide things for me. I'm edging towards a 42 because they do seem to be more straightforward to own and they're a bit newer but if the right 3200 came up at the right price, that would also make me very happy...

    Comfortable driver height in 3200/Coupe?

Thanks for all the replies - you've all been really helpful. I'm confident more than ever that I want a 3200GT or Coupe - each seem to have pros and cons to me and can't make up my mind. I'll just have to wait and see what turns up. I'll hang out around the forum to educate myself on the cars...
