Hi All

After much praise of how ace n reliable my GS has been yesterday it had an off which was a bit like limp mode in my Sprinter van. Would not accelerate more and general loss of power. Pulled over, got it i to neutral & it revved fine - tried to set off but felt very weak. So turned off & on & all was well again… until about 2 miles up the road, same thing.
Took it home n left it to cool & reflect on its behaviour then out again. Same thing…. but then after another off/on i continued to drive it rather brashly for at least 20mins with no issues.

No warning lights ever came on

Ive just plugged a cheap ODBII in n no faults logged

Anyone any ideas where to start to work it out?

Maybe some **** fuel or water ingress with the fuel , if its cleared itself ...........where did you top up

Limp mode? Try

Works for some on here.

Failing that, I'd follow Loz's train of thought on some contamination in the fuel (had the tank been run low?). Smarter minds than mine will be along soon, I have no doubt.

The problem you are going to have is that your cheap reader will only show you present codes, not ones which have been in place but then cleared.

Carry your reader with you and plug it in immediately you have the issue.

The Mass Airflow Sensors are known to cause all sorts of odd faults. Suggest you unplug it and try again. You’ll get a check engine light, but if it runs better then you will know.

Otherwise it’s fuel pump (low pressure) or a sticking throttle plate or a number of other potential issues.

Thanks Chaps... don't think it was run low & has 2/3rds of a tank...(which is a bit of a worry). But think I'll top it up & see how it goes - hopefully it was just something in the fuel. If it continues I'll look at the MAS & fuel pump and possibly draining the fuel....ughh.

The reason its really doing this is because ive been gushing praise to all about how reliable it is!

Well... I can say that my GS 'Self Healed' :p
After a couple of very short trips with no power I started it up, it revved really high & died - did this twice then on the third time I caught it with the throttle. Got it ticking over and left it to warm up & all is good! I really like the idea of the 'self healing' car...

Almost...

On a couple of occasions over 2 years starting it up it briefly fires up with a quick 'Wump!' and dies - then will not start (the starter motor sounds like its spinning much faster). Strong petrol smell from exhaust. Has it flooded itself? Anyway, turn it off at the battery & give it a few mins then it fires up & all OK.....

Any ideas Anyone?

Carbon canister or purge valve would be my bet.
