There isn't that much information available on the Japanese spec 2.8 Cup but unlike the 2 UK 2.8 Hybrid Cups as they were known, the Japanese 2.8 Cups were specially tuned by the Japanese importer Cornes, it is thought that 27 of these were built. The UK cars were merely 2.8 GTs with Cup...

    Ghibli Wheel Centre Caps Project

That looks like my kitchen table! There’s a coincidence, I have also decided to revisit this project and have obtained 6 sets of new chrome centre caps that are a perfect fit. The only slight difference is that the outer rim is slightly thinner, perhaps 1mm different. A few years ago I also...

    Ghibli Primatist

Cedfred bought his car in Hungary, it had never been in the U.K. The car that is (or was) in the U.K. is chassis #1896, it was imported to the U.K. in around 2000 and always retained its Italian registration number AS 408 DE, the last owner I am aware of was Philip Beale

Yep, it’s a limited market but also a very limited supply. If the seller isn’t desperate to sell and someone tells him it’s too expensive, he always has the retort of “Find a cheaper one then”

Primatist decals are present on the first one, zoom in on photograph 8. Yes steering wheel is easily addressed but gear knob not so easy, you’d have to find a standard 6 speed gearknob then use it as a pattern to make one from the correct burr maple as opposed to the usual rosewood or...

This one is a 2 litre so it’s rated at 220bhp, only the non-cat 2.8 18v and all 24v 2 litre cars (no non-cat version) were rated at 250bhp. That particular car is quite unusual in that it’s a later car with the Marcello Gandini styling (often known as a series 2 or a “restyling”) but only has...

Your biggest challenge would be finding a decent bodyshop, I have yet to find one that can do a decent job and I have tried many. If you wanted it done properly it would have to be a bare metal repaint, any bodyshop that values its reputation wouldn’t trust what’s under the existing paint...

were they large like the originals and covered the entire centre of the wheel, hiding the wheelbolts, or were they just small caps to cover the centre bore hole leaving the wheel bolts exposed?

Likely to be a DVLA error, they’re not renowned for accurate records and I know a lot of Biturbo era cars that are registered incorrectly including a Maserati “Quattro”, a “Quadtroporte”, a white Racing (they were only available in black or red) etc etc. only 2 UK Hybrid Cups were built, one...

Yes all of that is correct, I remember now that the suspension was stuck in position 2 and that the filler cap key was snapped. The other thing that concerned me when I saw it was that it was on budget tyres, always an alarm bell for me. As you say, apart from potential bodywork issues there...
