But the Speed / ABS (same thing) sensor cannot be replaced on its own? You have to replace the whole hub bearing assembly?...and traction control gets disabled. Those systems use the wheel speed sensors from each wheel.

Folks, these cars are not going up in value. Any ideas about what to do? I have replaced three at less than MD prices (labour inc) thanks to Dale. There are Chinese parts but I believe the bearings are made of jam.
To be fair I don’t think any car is going up in value at the moment and dare say get worse when Summer ends.Folks, these cars are not going up in value. Any ideas about what to do? I have replaced three at less than MD prices (labour inc) thanks to Dale.
We also think the bearing is magnetised for the hall sensor and the corrosion weakens it. Anyone doing one should clean it up and see if it starts working againCan the sensor alone not be replaced? Or does the corrosion affect the bearing itself so both need replacing? Do they come as a complete unit?
When you say clean it up do you mean remove the hub itself and try and clean up the bearing, or do you mean as part of disassembling the whole unit?We also think the bearing is magnetised for the hall sensor and the corrosion weakens it. Totally agree as most manufacturers are having parts manufactured in China for them as Genuine parts they obviously have the ability and capability for doing it just needs to be OE specification or better and job done.Maybe someone should find out who is making them in China then work with them to help refine the product so it actually works.
Seems they are part of the way there and have the equipment...
Yes remove it, wire brush all the rust off, airline blow it all out and see if it starts working again. Worth a try. When you say clean it up do you mean remove the hub itself and try and clean up the bearing, or do you mean as part of disassembling the whole unit?
Cheers. Once I diagnose which one it is (that’s if it is a wheel bearing), then I’ll definitely give it a go and let you know.Yes remove it, wire brush all the rust off, airline blow it all out and see if it starts working again. Worth a try.
Sorry, but I don't think you've ever removed a bearing.Yes remove it, wire brush all the rust off, airline blow it all out and see if it starts working again. Worth a try.
