I had a similar dilemma on which car to buy and came to the conclusion that although I could get a relatively modern sports / GT Aston, Maser, Porsche etc. none of them ticked all the boxes (although at the time I didn't know what the boxes were).
I realised that these types of car are great at what they do but a lot of the fun comes with risks. Speed enforcements are getting worse, traffic especially on main arteries is horrendous which limits the times you can truly exploit the fun factor. Driving ability, everything happens faster and this exposed my lack of skill.
I then thought about how to get that fun factor more often and my little 2.0 Giulietta does it nearly every time. With its little 2.0 litre 4 pot and simple suspension fun starts at much lower speeds, a nice bendy B road can have you smiling without risking your license. These B roads tend to be less populated so more opportunities to play and finally they are much cheaper to run, simple home mechanics for most things or a trip to a local indie for the black art of tuning carbs.
Hence when the decision had to be made I bought another classic, even less power, skinnier tyres and leaf springs (shock) but I absolutely love it.
