JonW - Let me know what you go for and why? Currently on the hunt for a set for my 09 MC. Anyone else have any recommendations?

I've gone with the Pirelli SottoZero II's. Am doing mine through my local Maserati dealership as they were (bizarrely) cheaper than the three other quotes I got, they will store my summer tyres, and will send me a reminder at the end of March to swap back to my summer tyres...

Why? Just drive smoother on summer tyres and you'll be alright. Winter tyres are for people who don't know how to drive smoothly.

Been driving 30 years and never had winter tyres, we didn't change them when I was in the forces either!

Ultimately because I'd rather be safe than sorry... I've had winter tyres on my last two cars and the difference in grip and control when cold, wet, icy or in snow is worth it to me

I have to say I don't do the winter tyre thing. Not because I think I'm a great driver, but because I don't really notice any difference (did I mention I'm not a great driver) when the temperature drops.

If it gets that cold, I just don't drive......

Doesn't have to be *cold as most winters work about 4 degrees and below. I agree though you won't be pushing hard enough to notice any longer braking distance or losss of traction.

Jolly good show if you can notice the difference. Personally, I drive slower when it's cold and frosty and get faster when the atmosphere warms up. Still, if you need winter tyres, then jolly good show for noticing why. All the best.

Yep I get that. Even when it's <4C I don't notice a *huge* difference. Certainly not so much that I want to spend £400 as opposed to moderate my driving.....

Thanks Benny - not suggesting I'm a great driver, as I'm not. However, without winter tyres my 335 couldn't even get out my driveway, but with them it could....

Disturbingly I agree mostly with Benny!

I too have a 335 and can get just about anywhere, whatever the temperature. Granted, in temps below +3 the velocities are rather slower but I can still get about. When it snows I just say 'f*ck it, I'll stay inside today and go sick'.

I've ran winters on my daily hack for the last 5 years now and agree you don't really notice mostly, however if there happens to be snow then they are a godsend and do work and when you're doing around 35k+ through bonny Scotland in a rear wheel drive 320d I would be without them. Plus they are on crappy winter rims as well which I can bash around and not give a **** about which is the other afvantage

I remember the snow of 2010, never again.

Let's face it the majority who don't really notice the difference don't really live in the cold. ;)

That's probably it. Never bothered with winter tyres myself but I haven't seen snow on the ground for any length of time for 3 years. Given that I just drive carefully in the cold until the tyres are warm.

Might as well fit them as they are here, grip does feel better when wet & cold but if it snows it makes a massive difference
