Is it just me or do our cars attract idiots, so I went to meet my son before parents evening and had to park in Asda for 10 minutes so I went to the far corner and parked it where there were no cars around I mean like a whole row of no cars and I was tempted to go parent and child but thought no its empty.....

10 minutes later and its still empty apart from the big fat skoda parked next to me and I don't mean like miles away but they would have to squeeze to get themselves out !!!!! checked the door and cant see any bumps or dings but hard to tell as its a bit dirty.

Im going to be really ****!! off its a ding.... but also why would someone do this, when its hard to get out. I should have took a picture.

Rant over...

Sickens me this type of behavior. It's a similar thing going over speed ramps. You tend to take them at 5mph as you look after your car but nearly always all the time, tosers are up your A$$ because they don't care about their own cars and wish to take ramps at 25 mph.

Don't use SM car parks and I am fortunate to have one within walking distance...so often I see shopping trolleys crashing I to cars, cads bumping other cars and doors being swung open hitting the one next to them.

Biggest bug bare is the extra wide bays (by error rather than design) which are hogged by OAPs in micro and city cars with five feet either side.

People generally consider cars as a means to get from A to B, thus tend not to care about their car or those belonging to others.

Due to this sad reality I try my best to park next to a car that looks half decent, reducing the risk of damage.

Similar thing happened to us. When my daughter was working at Asda she used the wife's fiat 500 to get there and back. She parked in the furthest bay from the shop with the passenger side tight to a wall so there was plenty of room on drivers side. Guess what. Door ding right on crease!!
The car park there is busy once a year. When the whole world is going to run out of food at Xmas and all the idiots think the shops will never open again. Unfortunately this happened in June on an evening.
Still seething now. You might be able to tell.

Happened to my mate also. Parked away by himself, woman came in and parked right next to him, he commented, and she asked if he'd rather she parked somewhere else, was most miffed when he said yes! Maybe she was trying to "pull" him lol

I've not been too precious about mine -- and so far avoided any dings ... hate the whole idea of double parking... usual strategy is to try and find an end space... but better to try and park next to something expensive or new... or failing that an Audi... Whatever you feel about their driving ... they generally look after their cars..

By now I've committed to memory the location on each floor of the Reading muti storey the position of the 2 oversize spaces with yards of space either way... usually find one free..

otherwise the golden rule is not to park near anything with kids car seats !

I had even parked over to next space so double parked and still got close. Im going out in a few mins to have a proper look and then if a ding .... annoying. Agree people get jealous but not like had silver spoon, worked since I was 12..(not in a coal mine :) )

This drives me nuts but most of what I think has already been mentioned. I too would avoid certain cars, Dirty, full of baby seats, builders/trade vans where they're probably not the owner, you get the idea.

Not sure about double parking, I wouldn't do that but I've happily parked in the 'with child' spaces to gain some extra room. Well, I have children, they're just a bit older, and drive themselves, and have children of their own :)

I feel your pain Stewart.

I once managed to catch someone in the act of doing just this, also in a Skoda as it happened. Given this rare opportunity, I asked them why in a car park with hundreds of empty spaces they had chosen to park right next to my car, and tight-in too. So tight-in in fact, that the driver struggled to get out of his car. He looked pained that I watched him getting out, and it really was a struggle, since he was a pretty old chap, and not the slimmest of people...

Apparently, he always chose to park next to nice cars, as the owners of the same would not ding his car, as he anticipated they were always going to be careful with their expensive doors, and hence by extension not damage his. Have to say, I couldn't see the advantage, given that I'm sure he would have marked my car had I not been watching him, and it has to be easier to park in completely empty bays before walking another 20m, no?

I've taken to either having Ocado deliver, in which case there's no parking to worry about, or like last night go to the StupidMarket at 9pm, when the car park and indeed the shop were both essentially empty. Easy.

It's sheep mentality, I've seen a 1000 space car park empty and parked right out of the way and someone drove right up and parked next to the car when they had the whole place to go at! Mind numbing!

Well I'm afraid if I saw someone double parked, Maserati or not I'd think they were more of a c*ck than an Audi driver!!

I leave my nice car at home for supermarket shopping, and take the runaround (Abarth). Prevention is the best cure.
